Colt Pocket Percussion revolver in .31 Caliber.  This is one of the earlier types with the small brass trigger guard. 5 Inch barrel w/New York Address and 5 shot cylinder.  Serial number is in the 139,000 range with 100% all matching numbers including wedge.  Made in 1857. These pocket Colts were very popular with Confederate and Union troops who used them as personal carry weapons during the Civil War 1861-65.  This particular Colt may have seen some use in the war as it shows the initials "E.K." scratched into the backstrap...it was very common for soldiers to mark their personal property with whatever means they had at their disposal. 

Overall condition is NRA Antique NRA Antique Good+ to Very Good condition.  The metal has turned to a dark grey/brown patina with good edges and nice markings throughout.  Traces of original blue are around the wedge screw. The roll engraved  Lots of original silver plating on the straps with 40% on the trigger guard and 70% on the backstrap.  Wood grips are in Fine to Excellent condition showing 80% original varnish with perfect wood to metal fit and no chips, cracks, or repairs.  Action still works well.  Barrel to frame lockup is still tight.  Bore is very dirty but has good rifling with darkness down in the grooves.  Could us a good brushing.  All in all, a very respectable example of an 1850's vintage Colt Revolver with probable Civil War usage.
