This is a good early example of the scarce Colt Model 1849 Pocket Percussion Revolver.  Only 11,000 1849's were built by Colt's London factory from 1853-1856.  This particular example was built in 1854 and  pre-dates the Crimean War (1856), Indian Mutiny of 1857, and the American Civil War (1861-65)...3 conflicts in which many London-made Colts saw service. Besides the London proofs and Colt London Barrel address, it has distinctive a distinctive iron triggerguard and backstrap most commonly found on London Colts. Standard  4" octagon barrel, 5 shot cylinder with slim style London walnut grips.  Serial number is in the 4700 range with all matching numbers including wedge.  Overall, this one has a grey to light brown patina with sharp edges and good markings.  Some slight traces of original barrel blue remain in protected areas.  75% cylinder scene depicting stagecoach robbery....OR...I'll put it this way: There is enough scene there to know exactly what it depicts...so pretty good.  Barrel address reads "ADDRESS COL. COLT. (over) LONDON." A few minor imperfections on this gun. Safety pins:  3 are mushed...2 are gone.  Nipples are replacements and a screw or two look as though they may be replaced as well....balance are the original high-domed London style.  Still, not bad for a 153 year old and it has a great look to it.  Fine grips have aged to a rich patina with 60% original varnish remaining.  No chips, cracks, or repairs. Action works well with all 4 clicks and barrel to frame lock-up is tight with no play.  A hard to find little example of an early London Colt revolver.
