This is an early 1880's production S&W 2nd Model Double Action revolver in Caliber 38 S&W. The second model was produced from 1880-1884 with the improved rounded sideplate to increase frame strength. One distinguishing feature these early DA's have are the shorter cylinder flutes with the extra groove and dual stop notches. The Patent dates on barrel run from 1865 to 1880. This one has a 3 1/4" barrel with nickelled finish and checkered hard rubber grips. All matching numbers. Overall condition is NRA Antique Fine retaining 90% original nickel overall that is getting frosty. Both the hammer and triggerguard still show most of their original case colors. Good screws and pins throughout. Trigger guard and barrel latch still show most of their original blue. Very good checkered hard rubber grips with good checkering and S&W monogram. Good bore+. Nice mechanics.
